Bridal Bouquet — White Roses & Peonies

Bridal Bouquet — White Roses & Peonies

A peony-led bridal bouquet is high-reward but high-planning. The bouquet itself is one of the most photogenic forms we build — peonies open soft and romantic, holding the eye in every portrait. The constraint is seasonality: SG doesn’t grow peonies commercially, so availability tracks the import calendar, primarily March through July from Northern Hemisphere growers, with a shorter supplementary window from New Zealand between September and November.

This portfolio item is the hand-tied peony-and-rose form. Stems: white peonies as the focal (Bowl of Cream, Duchesse de Nemours, or similar pale-cream varieties depending on seasonal import), white garden roses (David Austin Patience or similar) as the secondary, soft greenery (dusty miller, eucalyptus tips, silver brunia), and occasionally ranunculus for added texture.

The form is garden-loose rather than roundel-tight. Peonies have rounded, open heads that look constrained in a dense roundel; they want air around them. This reads as softer, more relaxed, and pairs well with less-structured gowns. Size: 28 to 35cm diameter, slightly larger than the classic roundel to accommodate peony head-space.

The SG-climate handling is where craft matters. Peonies are heat-sensitive. The stems go into cold conditioning the moment they arrive, the heads are watched for opening pace (we prefer stems 60 to 70% open by ceremony time — too tight reads bud-like on camera, fully-blown risks petal loss mid-walk), and the finished bouquet doesn’t leave the studio earlier than 3 to 4 hours before ceremony.

For couples whose wedding falls outside peony season, we’ll recommend a substitution: garden roses in the same palette, with the ruffled texture supplemented by double-form lisianthus. It doesn’t photograph identically but reads as the same design language. We’ll be clear in the consultation if your date sits in a peony-light month, and we won’t fake it with lower-grade imports that won’t hold.
