Ceremony Floral Arch

Ceremony Floral Arch

An asymmetric floral arch photographs better than a symmetric one. The reason is simple: the couple becomes the focal point instead of competing with a balanced frame. On a symmetric arch, the eye reads the arch; on an asymmetric arch, the eye reads the couple, with the florals as context. Most SG wedding photographers will quietly push you toward asymmetric for this reason.

This portfolio item is the asymmetric format — heavier florals concentrated at one upper corner, trailing down one side to ground level, with the opposite side carrying just enough structure (often trailing foliage or a single stem cluster) to avoid looking incomplete. Typical footprint: 2.4m wide by 2.1m tall — calibrated to wide-shot photography without cropping the couple’s heads.

Stems used: white garden roses, lisianthus, phalaenopsis orchids (structural), ranunculus (season-dependent), with trailing eucalyptus, olive branch, or smilax as the downward-sweeping foliage. For outdoor venues — Alkaff Mansion, Hort Park, Capella Sentosa, Sentosa Cove — we engineer for wind resistance: heavier base weights, wire-reinforced stem placement on the windward side, and backup stem kits on the van in case of last-minute repair.

Installation takes 2 to 3 hours. The structural frame goes up first (we use both welded steel and modular aluminium frames depending on portability needed), then foliage for architectural outline, then florals built from top-down. The last 30 minutes are spent checking sightlines from the videographer’s planned position and the photographer’s primary angles — we’ll adjust stem angles if a flower is reading flat on camera.

Strike happens immediately post-ceremony, typically during cocktail hour when guests are elsewhere. If the arch is being relocated to the reception as backdrop for a head-table photo wall, that transition gets planned in advance — not every arch travels cleanly. A deconstructed version staged at reception is often more practical and photographs just as well in the new context.
