The Classic Bridal Bouquet

The classic roundel bridal bouquet is the most-requested form at HerFlowers, and for good reason: it photographs reliably across every shot a wedding photographer needs. Walking down the aisle, portrait close-ups, arrival with father of the bride, first-look with groom, and the full reception arc — roundel works in all of them. Looser garden-style bouquets photograph beautifully in some of these and awkwardly in others.
This portfolio item is our signature classic roundel. Palette: white and cream. Focal stems: white David Austin garden roses and white phalaenopsis orchids. Supporting: lisianthus, white ranunculus (season-dependent, substituted with additional roses when out of season), small-gauge dusty miller or eucalyptus accent.
The mechanics matter. We build on a spiralled stem base — each stem angled consistently so the handle is clean and balanced in the bride’s grip. The handle is wrapped in ivory or white satin ribbon (or raw stem, depending on the dress language), pinned with either invisible binding pins or pearl-headed pins for a subtle reveal. Stem length is calibrated to the bride’s height and arm length — a too-long stem awkward in photos; too-short reads unfinished.
Size calibration is where most florists get this wrong. A bouquet too small reads thin on camera and gets lost against a structured dress. Too large dominates and can even hide the dress bodice in wide shots. Our default is 25 to 30cm diameter for most brides, scaled up for taller brides or fuller gown silhouettes.
Pairing guidance with dress: a simpler bouquet works better with a heavily-beaded or textured dress (so they don’t fight). A fuller, looser composition complements a minimalist silk gown. We’ll have this conversation during the design consultation — we’ve seen too many weddings where the bouquet and gown were designed in isolation and visibly clashed on the day.
Bridal bouquet hands off to the reception as a toss alternative or gets preserved post-wedding — we can coordinate a preservation referral to a local specialist.
