Reception Table Centrepiece

Reception Table Centrepiece

A reception centrepiece has three jobs: it has to photograph well, it can’t block sightlines or conversation across the table, and it has to hold for the 4 to 6 hours of reception service in an air-conditioned SG ballroom or restaurant.

The rule most commonly broken: height. A centrepiece tall enough to be seen above eye-level when guests are seated kills the table conversation. Our default is either sub-30cm (low-profile) or 60cm+ (elevated on a slim stem so the sightline passes underneath). Anything in between is the worst of both worlds.

This portfolio item is the low-profile version — typical footprint 40 by 25cm, height capped at 25cm. Stems are chosen for both photography and endurance: garden roses as the focal, with phalaenopsis orchids, lisianthus, ranunculus (season-dependent), and textural foliage including scabiosa pods, trailing amaranthus, or eucalyptus tips. Phalaenopsis holds the arrangement together architecturally and photographs cleanly under the warm-white lighting most SG ballrooms use.

Vessel options we’ve used: low ceramic compotes (the most reliable), footed glass bowls (elegant but fragile on the move), brass or pewter trays (for editorial styling). We don’t use candles inside the arrangement itself — fire hazard with dried foliage — but taper candles flanking the centrepiece elevate the styling substantially and we’ll plan for them if the venue allows.

Scale options: a long reception table typically takes 3 to 5 low centrepieces spaced 120-150cm apart. A round table of 10 takes one centrepiece plus 2 accent votives. For photography — particularly if the couple has hired a cinema-style videographer — we’ll include a few slightly larger “hero” arrangements for the head table so the wide-shot has a visual anchor.

Same-morning build, installed 1 to 2 hours before guest arrival so the stems are fresh when photographed. A refresh-and-replace service is available for multi-event receptions where florals need to carry across lunch and dinner sittings — the second sitting gets a new arrangement, not a revived one.
