Wedding Florist at Gardens by the Bay
Venue-specific floral considerations for Singapore’s most-photographed garden wedding venues.
Gardens by the Bay is structurally different from the hotel ballroom weddings that dominate SG wedding planning. It’s a public attraction with designated event spaces, specific vendor policies, and a floral vocabulary shaped by the venue itself — the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest already carry overwhelming floral presence; the florist’s job is to complement, not compete.
This is our perspective on designing florals for Gardens by the Bay weddings.
The Venue Character
Gardens by the Bay’s wedding spaces span three very different registers:
The Flower Dome
The cool-climate conservatory — Mediterranean and South African stem collections, changing seasonal displays, iconic glass architecture. Weddings here happen within a living floral space. The dome’s existing plant life shapes every floral decision.
The Cloud Forest
The indoor tropical conservatory with a 35m waterfall. Dramatic and atmospheric — weddings work best as intimate ceremonies, not large receptions. The 35m waterfall is the visual focal point; florals are accent.
The Supertree Grove & Silver Garden Ballroom
Outdoor spaces at the Supertree Grove or the enclosed Silver Garden Ballroom at the Floral Fantasy wing. The Supertree Grove offers the iconic evening-lit photograph; Silver Garden provides an enclosed alternative.
The Ocean Restaurant & Pollen
Dining venues within Gardens by the Bay — Pollen at the Flower Dome, Ocean Restaurant in the SEA Aquarium — for intimate receptions post-ceremony.
Floral Considerations
Venue-Produced Floral Density
The Flower Dome contains thousands of plant species in active display. The Cloud Forest is a living forest. No wedding florist can compete with this — the challenge is curating what to add so the wedding reads rather than blending into the venue’s noise.
- Flower Dome ceremony — restrained, bridal-party-focused florals; ceremony backdrop typically minimal given dome display
- Cloud Forest ceremony — very minimal florals; aisle markers and bridal bouquet only
- Supertree Grove evening — dramatic hanging installations or statement arches; venue rewards ambition
- Silver Garden Ballroom — more traditional reception floral scope
Palette
Works exceptionally well at Gardens by the Bay:
- White + palm foliage + jasmine — reads against most dome-display palettes
- Cream + olive + local tropical stems — integrates with venue vocabulary
- Burnt orange + bronze + deep green — works for Supertree Grove evening weddings
Less successful:
- Bright multi-colour palettes (compete with the dome’s seasonal displays)
- Pure white at scale (reads cold in the dome’s warm-climate lighting)
Vendor Policies
Gardens by the Bay has specific vendor policies that affect floral work:
- Approved-vendor list for some event spaces; external florists allowed for others on case-by-case basis
- No foam-based mechanics in the conservatory spaces (aligns with our foam-free practice)
- Install and strike windows tightly coordinated with the venue’s public operating hours
- Composting disposal available on-site for post-event materials
Access & Logistics
Gardens by the Bay vendor access runs through service entrances at each conservatory. Install windows are typically early morning before public opening (for Flower Dome and Cloud Forest ceremonies before venue opening) or late evening (for Supertree Grove ceremonies after venue closure).
We typically:
- Confirm venue approval for external florist services at the specific space 4-6 weeks out
- Coordinate install window with venue operations 2 weeks out (depends on public hours)
- Pre-build as much as possible in the studio; on-site assembly is restricted in some spaces
- Strike immediately post-event; no overnight storage available
Investment Ranges
Gardens by the Bay weddings vary widely by space. Flower Dome and Cloud Forest ceremonies (restrained floral scope) typically see investment of S$5,000-$12,000. Supertree Grove evening weddings with statement installations run S$14,000-$32,000. Silver Garden Ballroom reception florals fall S$10,000-$22,000 for standard scale.
Gardens by the Bay-Specific FAQs
Can we use our own florist at the Flower Dome?
Depends on the specific event package and space. Some Gardens by the Bay event packages require in-house or approved-list florists; others allow external florists with venue approval. Confirm early — it affects florist engagement planning.
Is the Cloud Forest practical for a full ceremony?
For very small weddings (20-50 guests), yes. The space is dramatic but has limited guest capacity. Larger weddings typically use Cloud Forest for a solemnisation or photograph-moment and reception elsewhere.
How do the Supertrees affect evening photography?
Significantly. The Supertree Grove’s evening light show creates a distinctive photographic backdrop. Florists can design to work with or against the Supertree lighting — worth discussing with your photographer and planner in the same meeting as the floral briefing.
Next Steps
Gardens by the Bay weddings book 10-18 months ahead for peak dates, especially for Supertree Grove evening ceremonies. Florist engagement 6-9 months out. Confirm venue’s florist-approval policy before committing to external florists.
