Wedding Florist at InterContinental Singapore

Venue-specific floral considerations for Bugis’s Peranakan-heritage hotel wedding.

InterContinental Singapore occupies a specific niche in SG wedding venues — a Peranakan-shophouse heritage building converted into a luxury hotel, with a genuine cultural-architectural register you won’t find at Marina or Orchard properties. Weddings here often carry a Peranakan, Chinese, or heritage-family cultural vocabulary, and the florals follow.

This is our perspective on designing florals for InterContinental weddings.

The Venue Character

InterContinental’s wedding spaces bridge heritage and modern luxury:

The Grand Ballroom

The main ballroom — pillarless, with high ceilings and traditional Peranakan-inspired detailing. Warm palette, deep timber accents, distinct architectural character that sets it apart from generic hotel ballrooms.

The Heritage Wing & Shophouse Suites

The preserved shophouse building — narrow, characterful spaces suited for intimate solemnisations, tea ceremonies, or pre-wedding family dinners.

The Olive & Ash Courtyard

Indoor-outdoor cocktail space with heritage architecture. Works well for post-ceremony cocktails or as transition space between ceremony and reception.

Floral Considerations

Cultural Architectural Registration

The InterContinental’s distinct cultural architecture means florals work best when they echo rather than ignore the venue. Modern minimalist palette can feel disconnected from the Peranakan detailing; palette choices that reference the venue’s warm-tone interior land better.

  • Ceremony altar — asymmetric, warm-palette, 2-2.5m scale
  • Reception centrepieces — tall pedestal (100-120cm) or low-and-dense (30-40cm) in warm-toned palette
  • Bridal bouquet — garden-style with heritage-referenced palette (burgundy, deep pink, gold accents)

Palette

Works exceptionally well at InterContinental:

  • Deep red + gold + burgundy — Peranakan-tradition palette, beautiful against warm interior
  • Cream + blush + muted gold — modern-heritage bridge palette
  • White + jasmine + gold-accent — Chinese-cultural register without heavy red

Less successful:

  • Cool-tone pastels (fight the warm interior)
  • Pure modern minimalism (undercuts the venue’s cultural character)

Access & Logistics

InterContinental’s Bugis location means relatively accessible vendor logistics — central SG address with standard loading dock access. The Grand Ballroom’s ceiling height and pillarless configuration give installation flexibility. Heritage Wing spaces are narrower and require more careful furniture coordination.

We typically:

  • Confirm install window 10-14 days pre-wedding
  • Arrive 3-4 hours before ceremony
  • Coordinate with the venue’s in-house Peranakan-artifact placement team — floral placement shouldn’t compete with heritage-display pieces

Investment Ranges

InterContinental Grand Ballroom weddings typically see floral investment between S$10,000 and S$24,000 for standard scale (200-350 guests). Heritage Wing intimate weddings (60-120 guests) fall S$6,000-$14,000. Chinese or Peranakan cultural-ceremony florals at the same venue add S$2,000-$5,000 to most briefs.

InterContinental-Specific FAQs

Does the Heritage Wing work for tea ceremony?

Excellently. The shophouse architecture provides an authentic setting for Chinese tea ceremonies. We’d often recommend it over generic hotel-room setups — the visual record is better, and the cultural integration is genuine.

Can we customise florals to reference Peranakan design?

Yes. Peranakan-palette work (sarong-kebaya colour references, tile-pattern inspiration) lands well at this venue. Worth bringing reference imagery to the design consult.

Is Bugis convenient for SG guests?

Very. Central MRT access, multiple routes in, and the Bugis precinct provides guest transit options that Sentosa or Tanglin don’t match.

Next Steps

InterContinental weddings book 8-12 months ahead. Florist engagement 6-9 months out; palette conversations benefit from a venue site visit given the distinct architectural character. Read our tea ceremony flowers guide for cultural-ceremony floral framework relevant here.
